Edgewater Park is a great little getaway that gives you access to Lake Erie and provides some relief from hot temperatures in the summertime. In1894 Cleveland had bought the land that would become Edgewater Park and today the park includes more than130 acres of land and also provides 6,000 feet of shoreline. This park has suffered from the areas industrial past, due to this raw sewage and other environmental hazards continue to create problems in Edgewater especially when there is heavy rain and storms. The sewer district stated that: "in the mid-1970s, combined sewer outfall at the beach discharged raw sewage into the lake about 40-50 times a year, but because of improvements to infrastructure, discharges at Edgewater have significantly decreased” (Sewer District). Due to the hazardous waste that leaks into the lake it has kept beach-goers from swimming in the water due to the debris and harmful toxins that disrupt the natural environment. you can help the park in its restoration by either donating to Cleveland Metroparks or by purchasing your favorite collage of Edgewater.
